The only time people get automatic emails from me is when people sign up, and then when they place an order. So people should expect an email saying thanks for signing up and one for placing an order.

Over the last few months I’ve got a couple of emails from people (who I can’t find as customers of my site) who ask to be removed from my mailing list because they haven’t signed up to it.

Has my site been hacked or something. I’ve asked my hosts who just tell me that I should install one of their modules which tracks emails or something. Not very helpful.

I’ve asked the people who are complaining to forward me the offending emails but so far noone has bothered to.

That is a spammer trick. They have found your email address somewhere, and they use it for the "from" and "reply-to" addresses in their spam emails. It looks like it is from you, but it is from a spammer trying to sell Viagra or something. There is really nothing you can do from your end. If the spam victim checks the header of the offending email, they will see it is not from your ip address, but some ip located in Korea or Singapore.

ADD: The reason is that after the spammer sends a few million spam emails, that "from" email address (yours) will be blocked by about half the world’s email servers. Then the spammer will go back to his/her spam database and pick the next email address in the list. When it is also blocked by half the world’s email servers, back to the list.

The spammer could have gotten your email address from zencart, but if you have your email address on your website, like a "Contact Us" page, that is where the spammers get 99% of their spam lists. They employ a "email gleaner" bot to collect email addresses from websites.

And if the spammer can find an "open relay" email server that is set to queue mode rather than interactive, that will present a different challenge for you. Not only will half the world’s email servers think you are a spammer, but if the spam email cannot ultimately be delivered by that "open relay" server, the reject email is sent to you! Maybe hundreds of them.

So what exactly is linking campaign the old way? There are a lot of SEO company out there are doing this, they will get links from any websites which accept adding links, the only updates on those websites are the new links, almost all of them are garbage, we call these sites link spamming sites. Now google algorithm probably will weed out these sites, any links on them will be affected too. 

A few real world examples will help to explain what I said. In the very beginning, I didn’t know better, I needed to rank the keyword, Reflective Tapes, at that time almost every body was doing plain linking campaign, almost all the sites I got link from had too many links, and those sites had only links, no real content at all. In the beginning, the ranking of the keyword in question rise pretty fast, lately the keyword link stayed on the first page for a while,   the honeymoon lasted until google changed it’s mind. Now let’s look at another keyword, chain puller , we put the link in relevant context, not too many plain links have been built, the rank for this keyword is making me real happy. Now contextual links win the battle, then what? Actually this is all about content, so if you create great content, you will attract readers as well as search engines. It’s never too late to build good blogs for business purpose, such as this interesting blog, best smartphones , I build it as a hobby and kept adding good or mediocre content, now it can even rank the highly competitive keywords. As far as SEO concerned, quality blog marketing is much better than plain link building. Say you’re building your own bogging network, such as Polyester Sling, then it will be easier to do article marketing.

At the end of day all you have to do is to create attractive content, publish and share with people, promote your business with the content, this strategy will prevail in short or long term. Persistence and patience are the keys to success, nothing will automatically improve overnight, i.e., selling online or improve your search rankings, let’s keep building and maintaining our blogs until end of the day. One of the best articles directories is EzineArticle, a new article will be indexed and cached in less than an hour, of course your posts on some blogs will be indexed real fast as well, here I am going to show you an article in article directory or on a blog, take Vehicle First Aid Kit as an example, quality content, nice presentation, indexed by google, all these points make it perfect for SEO.

Last but not least, we have hot social media now, no one can afford to not using them. For wordpress blogs, I recommend twitter tools, get a twitter account and API keys, link your blog to twitter, then every new post on your blog will show up in your twitter page, it’s easy and really useful, if you don’t use this tool it’s just too bad.
