Short while ago google had changed their ranking algorithm, the reason cited is that google wanted to provide more relevant results, google engineers published blog post which indicated there were 11.8% organic search results will be affected, say it another way, there are about 12% of google search results are considered low quality by google itself. They planned and started the update about one year ago, no wonder I saw a few of my keywords’ ranks dropped like a rock, on the other hand almost all keywords promoted by contextual links are not affected, a few of these keywords ranked better than ever, it’s almost a sure thing that plain link building loses all it’s attraction, at least in the eye of google.
What is old way of link building any way? There are a lot of SEO company out there are doing this, they add your links to those linking websites without context, these websites will only be updated when new links are being added, and most of them are useless, we call these sites link spamming sites. The latest google update will definitely downgrade most if not all of these sites, the links on those spamming sites won’t work anymore.
A few real world examples will help to explain what I said. It was quite some time ago, I started with this keyword, Grade 80 Hook, at that time almost every body was doing plain linking campaign, lately I figured that every site in the campaign had way too many links, and those sites had only links, no real content at all. I would give credit where credit is due, this linking strategy worked, eventually the keyword could be found on first page, this was the case until google made the change. Now let’s look at another keyword, chain puller , we put the link in relevant context, with very few plain links, the rank for this keyword is making me real happy. Now contextual links win the battle, then what? In fact the only thing matters here is content, when you create unique and quality content, you will attract readers as well as search engines. It’s never too late to build good blogs for business purpose, take a look at this blog, top smartphones 2011 , I build it as a hobby and kept adding good or mediocre content, now it can even rank the highly competitive keywords. As far as SEO concerned, blog marketing with great content is the way to go. Bottom line is that you should create great content, share the content with people, in the mean time advertise your business with your content, as long as you don’t stop doing this, you will win over customers and search engines. Persistence and patience are the keys to success, nothing will automatically improve overnight, be it your business or search rankings, let’s keep building and maintaining our blogs until end of the day. By the way, if you don’t take social media account, you’re lost. For wordpress blogs, I recommend twitter tools, then go ahead register a new twitter account and app, set up API credentials in your twitter tools option, then every new post on your blog will show up in your twitter page, it’s real easy and useful, it’s a big loss if you don’t use this tool.
